A New Chapter in Liverpool’s History: Moore Point
Our city is on the brink of an exciting transformation, as a local real estate agent in the area it’s great to keep updated and share with you the details of a project that could really reshape our skyline and redefine our community. “Ladies and Gentleman” is our future Moore Point?
What is Moore Point?
Moore Point is an ambitious urban renewal project set to breathe new life into a 32-hectare former industrial site along the Georges River. This isn’t just another development; it’s a vision for a mini-city that could become the jewel in Liverpool’s crown.
What’s Being Proposed?
Let’s break down the key features of the Moore Point project:
- Housing Boost: 11,000 new homes are planned, including 400 apartments dedicated to our hardworking frontline health workers from Liverpool Hospital.
- Job Creation: The project aims to generate 23,000 new jobs, providing economic opportunities right here in Liverpool.
- Education: A new public school for 1,000 students is part of the plan, ensuring our growing community has access to quality education.
- Green Spaces: With 10 hectares of open space and 8km of riverfront walking and cycling paths, Moore Point promises to be a breath of fresh air for our city.
- Connectivity: New bridge links across the Georges River will connect Moore Point to our CBD, making it an integral part of Liverpool’s urban fabric.
- Community Facilities: The plan includes shops, restaurants, cafes, and cultural facilities, creating a vibrant, walkable neighbourhood.
A Vision for the Future
Moore Point isn’t just about buildings and roads. It’s a vision for a sustainable, liveable city that embraces our natural surroundings. The developers, Coronation Property and Leamac Property Group, are focusing on six key themes:
- Natural beauty
- Holistic health
- Social uplift
- Working neighbourhood
- Home
- Creativity
These themes aim to create a place where nature, work, and community life blend seamlessly.
Where Are We Now?
After years of planning and navigating red tape, Moore Point has reached a crucial milestone. The project has been placed on public exhibition, which means it’s time for us, the people of Liverpool, to have our say. the project has previous been on public exhibition and an archive of that can be found here
Newly re-elected Mayor Ned Mannoun recently spoke about Moore Point and the amazing opportunity it represents for the people of Liverpool. You can hear what he had to say here
In April 2023, the project received a Gateway Determination from the Department of Planning, and the team is now working through the conditions to move forward.
Take the Mayor’s Tour: Mayor Mannoun recommends taking a walking tour down to Lake Moore under the bridge and walkway with some fantastic wildlife including Pelicans and Swans. Having this area so close to public transport is a sensational opportunity for development.
What’s Next?
If all goes according to plan, we could see the first apartments completed by the second half of 2027. But before that, there will be opportunities for community input and feedback.
Why This Matters to Liverpool
Moore Point represents more than just new buildings and jobs. It’s an opportunity to:
- Address our housing shortage
- Create local employment opportunities
- Improve our city’s infrastructure
- Enhance our connection to the Georges River
- Build a more sustainable and liveable Liverpool
